About  the Therapist
Ms. Haugaard is a  Nationally Registered and Board-Certified art therapist (Art Therapy Credentials Board) who has worked with the mental health community of the D.C. metropolitan area since 1988.
She received her  Masters degree in Art Therapy from The George Washington University,  and holds  a Post-Masters'  Certificate in Clinical Community Counseling from Johns Hopkins University.
She is a Licensed Counselor in the District of Columbia.   

Maria received a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from The Catholic University of America, where her BA Comprehensive Exam was  awarded Honors (sculpture).  She began her training in Drug Abuse in 1977 in Ithaca, New York.  She is fluent in Spanish.

Ms. Haugaard is a member of AATA (American Art Therapy Association), MATA (Maryland Art Therapy Association), PATA (Potomac Art Therapy Association),  SMPA (Southern Maryland Psychological Association),  and the ACA (American Counseling Association)
